Application of Physical Unclonable Functions for Authentication in the Internet of Things Networks |
A.G. Mustafayev
Lack of computing resources and low power consumption of Internet of Things devices narrow the list of protection methods that can be implemented on these devices. Most IoT devices are «locked» for changing the information embedded in them. Therefore, all protective mechanisms, or their support, must be initially designed and built into Internet of Things devices, so that they are safe in their architecture. Physical unclonable functions may be used as a reliable and resource-free solution for authenticating Internet of Things devices. The paper considers the mechanism of device authentication in the infrastructure of the Internet of Things, based on physically non-cloning functions, which are the basic element of physical cryptography. Unique digital identifiers of integrated circuits, formed at the production stage, are used for strong authentication.
Keywords: authentication; Internet of Things; Information Security; physical unclonable function; security threat.
