Nondestructive Testing of FRP by Using Phased Array

The report is about non-destructive testing (NDT) of fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) by using ultrasonic phased array technique. The main advantages of using phased array technique in comparing with traditional ultrasonic technique are shortly described in this paper. The basic defect types are enumerated. CFRP specimens testing results and optimal conditions for detection of the defects equivalent to 5 mm diameter reference reflector with 40 m2/h testing productivity are given. Methods of testing results registration, location and size determination of detected defects are described. CFRP testability estimation method based on back-wall echo value analysis is suggested.
