Some service devices used in geophysical instruments provide the operator with the checking information about equipment operability. Typically, such information is supplied as images (light indicators, display). The experience of field geophysical survey shows that during hard work, especially at the end of operator’s workday, the probability of missing some important parameter on the screen increases; the probability of losses grows respectively. To decrease the probability of inadequate actions caused by operator’s fatigue or external factors, the authors offers to supplement the seismograph with a simple block providing the checking information both in visual images and voice messages. For this purpose, they have developed a small-size module based on ChipCorder ISD 4004 Series chip from Winbond Electronics and Amtel AVR Attiny2313 microcontroller.
