In recent years, the idea of ​​distributed data processing has become incredibly popular. More and more organizations refuse to expensive high-end servers in favor of clusters of inexpensive low-end machines class. Network of distributed computing for the first time have found their application in science. Modeling of complex processes, processing large amounts of data, and similar tasks require computing power, which are often not able to provide supercomputers. As an alternative to the huge computing complexes, scientists decided to use grid-computing. The article describes the architecture, their advantages and disadvantages, issues of reliability and safety, as well as a platform for building distributed computing systems.
