Method for Secure Transfer and Storage of Backup User Data and Information from IoT Devices

This work is aimed at solving the problem of storing backup user data associated with the danger of unauthorized information access to it, and with the possibility of destruction or damage to physical media, as well as their theft in order to obtain stored data. The architecture of the proposed backup user data storage system is implemented on the platform of the user’s operating system and consists of three main components – encryption, synchronization and data transfer to the cloud storage. As cloud storage, you can use ready-made solutions, such as Dropbox, Yandex-drive or Google-drive. The interaction of all software components of the proposed system is presented in the form of an ER-diagram, on which the main abstractions that ensure the operation of the system are indicated. To automatically execute commands for encryption, decryption and synchronization with user protected files, open source scripts in the Bash-script language have been developed. The system architecture is also adapted to work with Internet of Things (IoT) devices, which have recently been actively used and developed in various user and industrial systems. The information generated by these devices, in order to ensure the integrity and security of the entire system, is backed up in the data storage system, encrypted and transmitted to its physical or cloud storage. The solution was tested on a working machine running the Linux Mint operating system, has a simple implementation, low resource consumption for its work, good scalability and availability. Given that encryption and decryption takes place on the user side, when working with user data streams with a custom key length, a fairly good level of confidentiality is provided.
