Analysis of the Possibility of Conducting a Cyber Attack by Exploiting Vulnerabilities in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles |
E.A. Kotov, Sh.G. Magomedov
As the technological capabilities of automated systems grow, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) becomes more and more real, not only in everyday activities, but also for military purposes. The armed forces of many countries around the world (including Russia) are not only actively using UAVs, but also publish plans to expand their use, while only recently showed interest in the aspect of UAV cybersecurity. As a result, modern UAV systems do not always take into account the specifics of their construction, taking into account cybersecurity considerations, and are therefore vulnerable to cyber attacks. Since UAVs rely heavily on embedded software, it is important to develop an autopilot system that is resistant to possible cyber attacks. To develop a cybersecurity autopilot architecture, it is necessary to conduct a study of potential cyber threats and vulnerabilities of existing autopilot systems. The use of UAVs is growing in many applications other than the traditional military. This article describes several examples of cyberattack scenarios that demonstrate the vulnerabilities of existing autopilot systems.
