An approach to identifying generalized criteria characterizing industrial controller and enabling for effective hard- and software selection and modification in process control engineering is discussed. As a case study, a sample of 31 temperature controllers is taken, and the transitions from 6 initial quantitative properties to 3 generalized factors characterizing more than 80% variance of initial properties, and from 5 qualitative to 2 generalized factors are examined.
