Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Protection
of Electronic Devices With Perforated
Shields from Electromagnetic Interference |

The possibility of unauthorized access to information on a personal computer has been identified. The evaluation of the effectiveness
of shielding electromagnetic fi elds in the frequency range of 1–20 kHz was carried out in experimental studies. The article presents the
appearance of the emitter and receiver of the developed experimental installation. Expressions for determining the total energy losses
of electric and magnetic fi elds in the near zone are given. The effectiveness of shielding steel sheets with the thickness of 1 mm has been
evaluated in experimental studies. The article presents the comparison of the attenuation of perforated and solid-sheet shields. The results
of the study showed that hexagonal perforation significantly worsens the shielding efficiency in the studied frequency spectrum. To increase
the effectiveness of protecting personal computers from unauthorized access through interception of information when interacting with
low-frequency components of the electromagnetic fi eld, we recommend determining the total energy losses of electric and magnetic fi elds in
the entire frequency range formed by the protected equipment in several materials. The article presents graphical dependences of the total
energy losses of the electromagnetic fi eld for the frequency of 20 kHz with the thickness of various metal screens of 4 mm. The conducted
research has shown that the problem of electromagnetic protection of electronic devices by shielding low-frequency and high-frequency
components of the electromagnetic fi eld is the diffi cult task that requires taking into account the technical characteristics of the protected
equipment and the physical properties of electromagnetic fi elds on materials and segregated structures.
