Application of Programmable Logic Controllers
in Autonomous Marine Surface Vessels |

This article examines the development of control algorithms for autonomous marine surface vessels (MANS) using programmable logic
controllers (PLCs). Particular attention is paid to the implementation of software solutions in the PC WorX environment, which supports
various programming languages (FBD, LD, ST, SCL) optimal for specific tasks. Examples of algorithm development are presented: course
correction based on gyroscopic compass data using the Structured Text programming language, diesel generator control to optimize fuel
consumption, engine control during berth approaches, and route adjustment based on weather data. For each case, the structure of the
software solutions, key variables, algorithm logic, and integration methods with vessel automation systems are described. Prospects for
improving PLC software, including the implementation of artificial intelligence systems and protocol standardization, are discussed. Overall, the article emphasizes the importance of developing reliable, flexible, and scalable software algorithms to enhance the autonomy and
safety of MANS.
